The Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa, PIDA, comprises of more than 400 cross-border projects in the sectors of energy, transport, water management, and information and communication technology. In response to this need the innovative PIDA Job Creation Toolkit allows infrastructure developers and policymakers to forecast how many direct, indirect, induced and secondary jobs can be created by their infrastructure projects annually or over their life cycle. The Toolkit uses an econometric estimation methodology that rests on input-output tables created for all African countries. The Toolkit uses methods that governments, development institutions, and international organizations worldwide recognize as best practice. Using the Toolkit we can estimate jobs, access job projections, maximize jobs as well as telescope into case studies. The job estimations produced by the PIDA Toolkit will help to raise the political and financial commitments necessary for PIDA project implementation.
